The relationship you have with your caregiver is one of the most important working relationships you will build. You must have trust and open communication for both the parents and the caregiver. Choosing childcare is one of the most important decisions that you will ever make. The type of setting you select will make a difference in how your children learn, view the world and interact with people throughout their lives.
Licensed Care
In order for a childcare facility to be licensed, they must comply with certain health and safety regulations.
Before a home can be licensed they go through a criminal background check, as well as child abuse registry checks prior to receiving a license.
Medical checkups are required for providers and their families, as well as for the staff and children.
Licensed facilities are required to have health and safety inspections yearly.
First Aid, CPR, Universal Precautions, Medication Administration training and early childhood education training are required for the provider and any employees.
Appropriate learning materials for every age, nutritious meals and snacks, and fenced play areas are also requirements for licensure.
Inspection reports for licensing are posted where they can be viewed
Continuing Professional Training
As required by the State, 15 hours of training are required each year to keep the license current. The subject areas are specified by the Colorado Department of Human Services, Division of Child Care and are:
*Child growth and development
*Healthy and safe environment
